The Interboro Rock Tribune is a born and bred New York music magazine available for FREE all throughout the Tri-State area. Our primary impetus is to cover NY music culture from the perspective of our native eyes, a collective of local writers, illustrators, editors, photographers and designers sick and tired of transplants trying to tell our story. This city has got many tales waiting to be told, and we wish to provide the outlet for their telling, whether it be from Brooklyn (El-P – IRT No. 1, Fall 2002 and No. 2, Spring 2003, Jean Grae – IRT No. 4, Winter 2005), Queens (Fountains of Wayne – IRT No. 4, Winter 2005, Gorilla Biscuits – IRT No. 8, Winter 2007), Harlem (Duke Da God – IRT No. 7, Summer 2006), Manhattan (Tom Verlaine – IRT No. 7, Coming Spring 2006, CBGB – IRT No. 5, Summer 2005) or even Staten Island (Wooden Wand – IRT No. 7, Summer 2006)
And our coverage doesn’t just stop at the Cross Bronx. The IRT loves to hear about cool and interesting folks in the area blanketed as Upstate (Levon Helm –IRT No. 3, Spring 2004) and Long Island (Heston Rifle –IRT No. 3, Spring 2004, Imani Coppola – IRT No. 7, Summer 2006), as well, not to mention in New Jersey (Cyro Baptista – Spring 2003, Dillinger Escape Plan – IRT No. 5, Winter 2005) and Connecticut (Gary Higgins – IRT No. 6, Winter 2006). And if there is a newsworthy national or international act like an Isaac Brock (IRT No. 1 – Fall 2002) or a Mike Patton (IRT No. 3 – Spring 2004) or a Terry Reid (IRT No. 6 – Winter 2006) or a Mudhoney (IRT No. 7 –Summer 2006) peddling something new, we would love to hear from them as well.

When does irt come out?
Being a small operation who solely relies on the advertising we supply to cover the cost of the printing, IRT has only been able to provide one or two issues a year. There are only about four of us running this entire thing from our apartments, which we pay for with other jobs unrelated to the magazine (or the music industry in general with the exception of IRT associate publisher Brad Filicky, who works at CMJ). However, when we do come out, we make sure not a one of our drop locations is empty and make sure each venue is replenished regularly.

Why should I advertise with irt?
Look, we know there’s a lot of competition in the foyers of our city’s record shops, concert venues, whiskey bars and late night eateries.
However, we are steadfast in our belief that people appreciate authenticity. And when historic landmarks are being eradicated from the city map, unsung heroes of our neighborhoods are being sadly cast aside for the next cool thing and daring new acts with nary a drop of ink spilled in their praise, there needs to be a magazine like Interboro Rock Tribune. Our primary goal is to preserve the true art of our area’s music culture without pretense and in perfect, brutal honesty. We aim to bring you the New York the other magazines are woefully ignoring.
We are approaching you to advertise with Interboro Rock Tribune because we respect and appreciate your business and what you bring to our lives. There’s a strong chance we frequent your establishment or cover your records or drink your drinks. And we want to be able to help spread the word about you to the most people for as the lowest rate out there.
We get 10,000 hard copies printed every quarter of the year, which are distributed FREE all throughout the NY Tri-State area with fast plans to ship bundles to our friends in Los Angeles and Chicago as well. Not to mention every issue of IRT is available in pdf format on our website at www.irtmag.com, as well as on our MySpace account (where we currently have well over 10,000 “friends”), which means your ad is available to be seen by countless numbers of people not only in New York but all over the world. And at only the fraction of the price you pay for ad space in less-available publications around the city.
Please take a minute to check out the copy of our latest issue of IRT with hopes that you dig what we are doing. Our ad rates are on the next page, and I encourage you to check them out. If you choose to book space in our upcoming spring issue, due out in June, IRT will gladly take 35% off your initial purchase.
Art deadline is May 20. Our specs are available on the next page as well.
Thank you for your time and attention to the Interboro Rock Tribune, and I hope to hear back from you soon.
Sincerely,
Ronald P. Hart Jr.
